BP4_Quizlet

My Quizlet page for my Social Studies class.
The Web 2.0 tool that have used and will start to use again is Quizlet.  I used it with my 7th grade Geography class 2 years ago as a study tool for vocabulary words learned in class.  They loved it!  Before the unit, I would upload all of the vocabulary.  As students finished assignments, I would allow them to log onto Quizlet to review.  There are multiple things they can do on the site.    They can learn the set of terms posted by the teacher,  test themselves, and play games.  There is also a feature where they can interact and chat with one another.  Any user of Quizlet can use other sets posted by users, so you do not always need to create new ones.  I would like to use this with my high schoolers and place it on my website for my Action Research project.

  1. Quizlet sounds like a tool that would be useful for students to use for FCAT review. At our high school we are always trying to keep the students active in their studies for the state test and the students are bored with the practice guides they are assigned. An interactive site in which the students are learning in a fun manner is a way to wake up our test reviews for sure.

  2. Is it possible to use vocabulary from what another teacher posted? I'd like to use Quizlet for my U.S. History students as well as for my own enrichment. Sounds like students would need to have an account to access your vocabulary words as a teacher? Is it possible for students to access Quizlet from home?

  3. Bruchetta,

This sounds like a pretty amazing tool. I had honestly never heard of it before, but I am intrigued. I especially like that it seems to be so convenient to use to help reinforce vocabulary. I teach English/Language Arts, and working in vocabulary is always a constant struggle. I am always looking for new ways to encourage my students to study their words, and I think this site will be a huge help. Thanks for the information!

  4. I love it! Not only does it get the students to memorize rote information in a fun way, but allows them to use social means. This is a big deal for 7th graders. I can't wait to see more of it in action.

  5. We have a program that we use called Moodle that does a lot of what Quizlet does, but Quizlet seems much more user friendly and less labor intensive than Moodle. I teach Language arts and am always looking for a new way to introduce vocabulary. Thanks for the Web 2.0 tool. I am definitely logging in to give it a test run.

  6. This sounds like a great tool. Do you think it could be made simple enough for elementary students? This might be a great way to create practice in antonyms and synonyms. I think the testing yourself feature allows them immediate feedback on whether they understand the concept. I think my students would also love the games feature.

Thanks for sharing such a great tool! I love to hear about kids having fun while learning.

  7. I really like this tool. I think my classes would benefit from this. I am always trying to put a twist on the things we do in my class. Adding more usage of technology will be great especially while they are learning. My students love to play games. What a great way to trick them. :)
